Arsène Lupin was the third volume in the series of stories and novels featuring the legendary French gentleman-burglar. The work began life as a play in four acts written by Maurice Leblanc with collaborator Francis de Croisset. It was then translated into English by Edgar Jepson, a writer of detective fiction, and published in 1909 as Arsène Lupin . The story unfolds over twenty-three chapters and centers on a young and snobbish daughter of a millionaire who is engaged to married to a duke who has just returned from a journey to the South Pole. The unexpected appearance of the famous gentleman-burglar into the equation keeps things from going as expected.
